EU SRR Directive Compliance

Adherence to the European Union's stringent standards for environmentally sound ship recycling.

The European Union Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR), effective from 31 December 2018, sets a high benchmark for the global maritime industry. It mandates that all large sea-going vessels sailing under an EU member state flag must be recycled in safe and environmentally sound facilities that are included on the European List of approved ship recycling facilities.

Greendock's FoilDock system is engineered from the ground up to not only meet but exceed the requirements of the EU SRR. The EU Ship-dismantling Conventions Standard, going far beyond the Hong Kong convention, is a binding condition, establishing humane working and ecologically responsible working conditions while providing an economical and profitable ship-dismantling service. Our commitment to zero-pollution is absolute, and our processes ensure the full containment and management of all hazardous materials, preventing any discharge into the environment.

Key Compliance Features:

  • Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM): Our process begins with a thorough pre-cleaning phase based on the IHM, ensuring all hazardous substances are identified and safely removed before any cutting begins.
  • Downstream Waste Management: We provide a transparent and verifiable chain of custody for all waste streams, from hazardous materials to recyclable components, ensuring they are managed by certified downstream partners in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Safe-for-Hot-Work Certification: No cutting operations commence until the vessel or section is certified as 'safe-for-hot-work', guaranteeing worker safety and preventing fire hazards.
  • Impermeable Floors: The core of our system, the patented Foil Basin, provides an impermeable barrier that captures all liquids, residues, and particulates, ensuring zero contamination of soil or water.

By design, a facility operating the FoilDock technology is positioned to achieve inclusion on the European List, providing ship owners with a reliable, compliant, and future-proof solution for vessel retirement.
